When Glencadam was built in 1825 production was driven by an internal water wheel, which over the years fell into disrepair and had to be removed. After years of planning we have now re-instated this unique piece of heritage, making it now the only whisky distillery in Scotland to have a working internal water wheel.
This new wheel sits in the heart of the distillery, and in time when the new Visitor Centre is built, it will be a highlight of the distillery tour, as people will be able to view it from above and the side.
We commissioned a fascinating video which follows the story of the wheel arriving on site and the installation, and includes footage of the local engineer who built it, plus our Distillery Manager and Director talking about it. You can view it on the Youtube link below.
